Designer Labels Vs Poorly made

Benefits to buying designer labels

Let's get this one started with saying yes, I do understand that some people are not in the financial situation to buy these clothes. Buying nice clothing is a privilege that realistically only a small percentage of people can legitimately afford. Designer labels are known as being some kind of status symbol to any normal person and for some that is correct, but on the flip side of that designer labels also are known as being made by craftsmen and craftswomen. This ̈ Flex Culture ̈ isn't new and probably won't stop but nice clothing goes beyond logos and recognition. Understanding where your clothing came from is important too. Understanding who made your clothing is more important than most think thus this post.

Plain and simple If I'm paying upwards of three hundred dollars for an article of clothing I expect stitching to be straight and there to be some kind of design intent showing. This is one of the biggest reasons for me as a collector of clothing to ensure that I will have timeless pieces in my very very slowly growing archive. (what one would call a closet I´m just being stupid) quality and design intent are key because with out that what are you really getting from a garment. Without quality the garment that you have just gotten will only last a limited amount of wears. And without design intent what justifies the price.Price justification is a big one for the average Joe because really what makes a thousand dollar jacket a thousand dollar jacket? These two elements are key in a garment in order to justify pricing.

Supporting designers who really don´t make as much as you think.

Being a designer is a hard never ending job and for me as a consumer I try to buy clothing new from a distributor when I can afford. This is for one reason and one reason only. To show support for a hard working designer that really doesn't have it as good as the movies make it seem. But realistically I usually can only afford to buy clothing used due to the high prices of designer labels. Knowing that some of my money is going to the human that actually drew up the garment Im wearing and thought about the construction is important to me and a large group of people. I want to keep the designer In business because when you think about It fashion designers are just conceptual artists and without the consumers help they won't continue to make the art that their fans know and love. It's the same as buying a print of artwork to put on a wall, you are representing the designer through your item of clothing.

Child labor

In fast fashion brands like H&M and Zara they use cheep child labor in countries like Vietnam, China, and Iraq (Just to name a few). These large companies make things on the cheap by paying a child a dollar a day to pump out these garments. Child labor is wrong and I like to think that every person thinks that (Except for the CEOś of these big companies). Little do we know that the Nike shirt that we are wearing is made by child laborers or the H&M jeans are too. This is a huge difference when it comes to designer labels. Most designer label garments are made by artisans that are being played a fair wage. Its difficult to think paying a large amount of money for a white t shirt but when you look at all the people that went in together and made that shirt, well your just paying their wages and operation fees.
